Demoing the 2018 education iPad and comparing to a 10.5” iPad Pro and 12.9” iPad Pro.

Why do some images in Photos *subtly flicker* on the 10.5” iPad Pro flicker (as well as in the Procreate demo and Pixelmator), whereas none of these flicker at all on the 12.9” iPad Pro or the education iPad? They are all running iOS 11.4.

The flickering happens with the art or picture displayed, but flickering goes away when two-finger sliding.

No it's not a live photo. Some of these media came straight from a drawing app. Others are still photos shown in Photos app.

Also, can the current iPad Pros (2017, A10X) play back 4K at 60 fps? (I don't care if it can't record 4K@60p, just play it back, e.g., from my Photos library.)

I've been searching all over the internet and can't get a straight yes or no answer.

Or, any way to test this tomorrow with a test video (give a link) using the demo models?

Also, here's a reference to that "subtle flicker" that I tried to explain happens on the 10.5" but not the 12.9":

if need be I'll take slow-mo on my iPhone tomorrow and prove it.

Oh and:

How would I use an old TV (as in, 1080p, HDMI, no AirPlay connectivity) to mirror playing a YouTube video from an iPad? Is there some kind of cheap HDMI-AirPlay adapter for something like that?

Tried taking slow-mo video, and looked at it at home with a 4K monitor. Unfortunately, the flickering is too subtle to show up on video, but trust me, it's there. If you want some specific examples when you check it out at a demo station, I picked "Poppy Field" in the Pixelmator app. It shows that subtle flicker well on the 10.5" iPad Pro, but no flicker on the 12.9" iPad Pro. Both are the 2017 models.

Hey what kind of app could I use as a spreadsheet-style array of checkboxes?

Let's say that I have a list of names and a bunch of columns:

Code:
Date1 Date2 Date3 NAME1 ✅ ✅ ✅ NAME2 ✅ ✅ ❌ NAME3 ✅ ❌ ▢
where I can just tap on the cell as people check in and it puts a check there

So, one tap = puts a ✅ in that cell

Something like a Doodle poll or a checkbox list/form... but without using Doodle, I want more control like a spreadsheet and I know that I can do this with Numbers but it's a pain to have to type on each cell, find a checkbox symbol, then zoom in to the cell to select it, paste the check, for each person each time. Any related apps?

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like there's a way to convert cells to checkboxes in Numbers already.

Well, the display isn't 4K, so you can't show 3840*2160 pixels, but Netflix will apparently use its 4K source to show video on the iPad Pro if you pay for that service. Haven't explicitly tried to play it from my photo library - don't have a phone that will create it, and my old iPad 9.7" is just a sliver over regular HD anyway - but I would guess it works.

Used AppleTV, preferably Gen 3. Try eBay, you can find them cheap sometimes.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

What I have found is that 4K60p taken on an iPhone X will not even transfer from the Photos library to the 2017 iPad Pro. (Apple does not present any alert indicating the non-transfer. EDIT: Latest beta indicated that it "cannot be played on this iPad.")

I think that excluding 4K60p playback on the current generation iPad Pro is kind of silly considering that A10X has plenty of GPU power to do it.
