The specs look very close for these two. The samsung has the bigger more colorful screen whereas the 4s has siri. Samsung also features upgradeable memory but the 4s has itunes.

What else separates the two? Comments from owners of both welcome.

My Apple-apologist 2 cents:

The bigger screen means you cannot operate it one-handed.

The "more colorful" screen on OLED generally means it's hyper-saturated and looks great if your world consists of kids' toys, clowns and balloons. But only then.

Other than that: who gives a **** about specs?

As for Android vs. iOS: whatever rocks your boat, but IMO, that is the real decision here.

Android vs. iOS aside, I've tinkered with the Galaxy S 2, and it felt really flimsy and cheaply constructed compared to the iPhone.

If only the 4s had a bigger screen. I have a pretty strong prescription, and the 3.5" seems relatively meager by way of comparison now.

I also don't like the physical home button which requires a hard click.

Then there are the battery issues.

Older people, go for the Galaxy. But it's too hard to hold. To unwieldy. Apple can offer a 4" where the device is hardly any bigger at all. That'll be the ticket. Waiting for the iPhone 5.

I have big hands, but anything larger than the 4s screen would NOT be operable one-handed. We have cold winters here, lately. Do not want.

A mechanical home button cannot be invoked accidentally by brushing over it.

I'm not seeing any battery issues on my 4s.

It depends on individual but 3.5 inch screen is too small for me. Especially, people like me who do lots of web browsing and movie stuff. Galaxy S2 4.5 inch screen is huge advantage for me. Also, another main reason for Galaxy S2 is LTE.... I do not understand why apple does not support LTE yet. If Apple thinks 3.5 inch screen is the best for cell phone, they should not come with bigger screen for iPhone 5. But you know what? Apple will release iPhone 5 with bigger screen and LTE next year for sure (from secret reliable source) . 3.5 inch is joke.. or maybe perfect for kids.

As I see it, there are three problems with the S2:

* Screen resolution is so much lower. 800*480 means losing 160 pixels in each direction, almost 40% of the total number of pixels.
* Outer dimensions. The iPhone 4 fits nicely in my pocket, and something a little larger might fit too, but this is too big.
* Battery life - and this is why most people won't bother with LTE yet. With the very limited build out of LTE yet, the tradeoff isn't worth it. That is due to change with the next generation of the radio chips, and I'm sure Apple will have it the next model, but for now there is little point to it.

At least in the US, LTE is still being rolled out and isn't widely available. Add to that the battery draining problems with LTE radios and you have a usability problem.
