Hi all... Long time lurker, first time poster... (That sounded like a Mac Anonymous introduction)
Anyway... Hopefully this is going in the right forum... If not, many apologies.
Hopefully one of the CPU gurus around here can help me out. I seem to be having trouble with my OWC Mercury Extreme 1.4Ghz processor upgrade. The processor itself works great, no issues with sleep, lockups or anything like that. Which leads me to my question...
The fan on the heatsink makes a god-awful whine when I first start the computer, and continues to make the noise for about a minute or two before it goes away. I've isolated the problem by replacing the power supply and the internal fan on my Digital Audio G4, which leaves only the CPU fan.
I've tried looking up CPU fans online and get a lot of options for fans, but none look like they'd fit the heatsink of the Mercury Extreme upgrade. Most serches result in huge case fans. Any help on finding a fan that would replace the OWC fan, or a tip on how to maybe lubricate the original fan would be greatly appreciated!
