That I regularly use? iBook G4. I don't have room in my dorm for a bunch of crappy computers. I do have a G4/400 at work acting as a server, but that's about to get replaced by a dual 1GHz G4.

An Atari STacy 4/40.

Still in use as it's a rock solid sequencer.

Add me to the Macintosh 512K club.

At least, I assume it still works. It did last time I pulled it out of storage.

Oldest computer we have in the house is a 733mhz P3 Packard Bell. I have no idea how old it exactly is. It's my dad's typewriter/email machine. It's going to be replaced by a Vista laptop soon tough. I'm not even trying to get him to buy an Apple. He stills thinks they are "incompatible". He only uses Word, Excel and email.

So, buy him a macbook and install vista on it. Best of both worlds.

Atari 520 STfm

It still works. But these days I tend to fire up NoSTalgia or Hatari.

Still trying to set up Aranym...

There could also be an Amstrad PCW 9512 in the loft.

I loved my STs (I had a 520 and a 1040) but those F keys were terribly annoying. What would you use an ST for nowadays anyway? Games?

A few months back I donated an iMac Rev. A, and recycled an SE/30.

So now I guess the oldest is a 17" iMac G4.

Oh, I sure did think about that. But he doesn't want one. And no Dell either, that's a relief.

And tbh I think it's a bit of a waste. It would make the Macbook very expensive compared to a pc with the same specs (macbook + Vista license + Office 2007).

Ah well, I'm going too far off topic here.

Unless he actually wants to right-click...

I really with my MacBook had two mouse buttons. (Well, three. I'd dual-boot Linux rather than Windows, but using Linux with a single-button mouse blows.)

Doesn't the MacBook have a feature where two-fingered tapping = right-click?

In OS X, but does it work in Windows? I'm pretty sure it doesn't in Linux (at least it didn't last time I looked).

Acorn was so far ahead of it's time. It's interface was very Mac-like, before Macs were.

I thought Apple's Boot Camp drivers made it work, but I don't have a MacBook, so maybe I've been listening to tall tales.

I had never heard of the RiscOS until today. It did look rather impressive, although I think it's unfair to claim it was "Mac-like before Macs were." The Mac has always been the definition of "Mac-like" and it came out in 1984. RiscOS first debuted in 1987.

A few of my friends owned 520s and 1040s. They were awesome. I thought it was cool (still do) that the computer and keyboard were combined in such a small size and still cool looking.

I suppose I could dig up my XP disc and find out, but then I'd have to deal with partitioning my hard drive and installing windows. Not to mention using Windows.

I have a 1999 vintage "Quantex" P2-300 laptop that's running just fine today, thank you very much. It's amazing, since this guy traveled all over the world with me, plus his age and definite "PC-ness," but there it is.

I used to use the 7100 to write papers for school when the beige G3 was being used by my family. The G3 had an external modem and the 7100 had nothing so there wasn't much to be distracted by.

Until 2-3 years ago the X10 lights in my house were controlled by an old zenith 286 laptop. That was the first computer I ever used.

iMac DV 450mhz G3 (the 2nd generation iMac with Firewire and no fans circa 1999 or early 2000). Still used daily by my girlfriend's 15yr old for chatting, surfing, iTunes, even Keynote on occasion. Runs 10.4 pretty well for only having 384mb ram.

Apple ][ Plus. I think it's from 1978 or 1979; I took a look at the motherboard a few years back, and I remember something being magic-markered on it. Last time I checked, it still fired up fine, although I have no idea how to use it.

Our real estate agent found it in some basement and gave it to me when he was selling my parents' house some years back. Right now it's just sitting in my old room in Toronto. No idea what I'll ever do with it.
