DisplayMate has weighed in on Microsoft's recent assertion that the screen on its Surface RT device would be better for reading than the high-resolution Retina display featured on the newest iPad. In a brief analysis of Microsoft's claim, DisplayMate finds that Microsoft's tablet will likely produce a more readable image than the iPad 2, but that it was unlikely to be able to best the Retina display. As the Surface has not yet been released, DisplayMate was unable to use an actual unit, but instead relied on an Asus Netbook, which they believe to be similarly specced.

For a company who's focussed (no pun intended) on displays, they sure have an ugly web site.
