No, it's like the newspaper classifieds. Email the person, arrange to pick up item, pay in cash.

No, it doesn't work like ebay, thank god. How did you manage to get that impression? Craigslist is closer to being a classified service.

Edit: Beaten to it.

Btw, eBay owns 25% of craigslist.

so why would these people sell these laptops on craigslist instead of ebay? the price that they want for them on craigslist is way cheaper than they're going for on ebay... that's why i'm a bit confused

No shipping & handling hassle, no eBay fee, etc., etc. But, if you're really concerned, all you have to do is visit the person and check out the machine yourself.

damn, i'd be willing to buy plenty of these and turn around and sell them on ebay...

i'm going to have to pay someone to meet with him and buy it, then ship it to me... i don't live there...

On Craigslist, the person pays cash, so there's no chance of getting screwed as a seller. And there's no listing fees, etc.

EDIT: what they said.

I had good luck in Craigslist finding a home for one of our cats.

They have metro sections all over the US.

Gotta love Craig's. My escapades there:
  • sold 5 GB iPod ($150 cash)
  • sold 15 GB iPod ($150 cash)
  • sold 450 MHz Power Mac G4 Cube ($750 cash)
  • sold 1 GHz Titanium PowerBook G4 ($1,550 cash)
  • bartered old digital camera for 512 MB iPod shuffle
  • scored two dates, one of which developed into my LTR
  • got lots of laughs, 'cause Craig's in NYC is freaking NUTS!

MP 2 x 2.8 and etc.

Everything I own has been through craigslist... well, not exactly... but I have yet to get a bad deal through there. Got my car, sold my laptops, spare stuff and even made money selling my old bed.

I live through it.

Craigslist is great. Picked up a Dell 17 inch monitor for $45.

Be careful if you sell anything. Almost immediately you'll get an email from some guy in Russia or something. They'll offer "Cashier's Cheques" for your item plus pay for overseas shipping. It's just a scam.

Check this one:

I have a morning ritual that I need to share. I call it "the terminator". First I crouch down in the shower in the classic "naked terminator traveling through time" pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and I start to hum the terminator theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless, cyborg badass. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It ruins the fantasy. I think maybe I read too many comic books when I was a kid...

I've tried selling some stuff on craigslist, but for every email of interest I received, I got about 15 scam emails.

I seem to immediately get one guy who says he'll buy my listing, then never communicates again, and I never hear from anyone else.

Then there's the posts like this:

http://madison.craigslist.org/sys/84875531.html

$1K for a Dual G5, 2 gigs, 250x2 SATA.... yeah, right. Same setup is was for sale in Milwaukee.
