Hello folks,

I use M$ Word on my PowerBook G4 and often attach it to an external monitor. My PB is a 1.25G4, 64vRam, 1GB ram. Occasionally I get what looks like "smearing" of text when I scroll through a document, ie the last line on that page just continues to repeat. My boss is having the exact same problem, he uses a CRT connecting to VGA via adaptor. I, on the other hand, connect to a digital LCD, direct connect.

How common is this problem, and has anyone found a solution? One other note, it appears, at least for the moment, that this smearing effect does not occur while in "Normal" view. I usually display my docs in "Page" view.

I've been able to consistently replicate this bug in MS Word when changing display settings while Word is running. Example: I'm working on my Powerbook disconnected from the monitor, using Word. I get back to my desk, plug in the DVI cable, secondary screen appears, I start using Word on that screen (which is taller than my PB screen) and the "new" area (i.e. the one that extends further than what my PB display could show) becomes smeared when scrolling.

Solution: quit Word and restart it (with the monitor plugged in). That solves the problem.

It seems the Word renderer does not take into consideration changes in display configurations.
