I run broadband through a landline but also have access to a wireless network provided by my landlord - here in the office. I only use it occaisionally if my broadband provider is having problems because it is way slower than my cable connection.

I cannot switch off Airport (nothing happens when I cdlick on Turn Airport Off) and there is a strange little arrow on the Airport icon in the tool bar.

Anyone tell me what is going on me?

I'm guessing that it represents your internet connection being shared through your Airport. (I'm not in a position to try this and verify it, though.)

Does that mean

a) That my cable broadband connection is being shared through my airport?
b) if I turn off internet sharing problem solved?

I don't remember turning on internet sharing

So why can't I turn Airport off and why is this arrow on the Airport symbol, given that I've just turned sharing off?

it still says Internet Sharing is on.

Though i'm not sure why it doesn't turn off - I've just switched internet sharing on and can turn off my airport when it's in that state.

If you open up Internet Connect within your Applications folder and select Airport, can you turn it off from there?

I think you are looking at two different things. The Internet Sharing option allows you to share your internet connection with other computers, which you probably don't want to do. If you have any other computers they should connect to the router directly, not through your computer. Go to System Preferences --> Sharing --> Internet and turn it off there.

Turning Airport off kills your wireless connection completely. Even with Airport turned off, it remembers that Internet Sharing was turned on.

Uhhh... select "Open Internet Sharing.." and turn the sharing off.

C'mon... it's not THAT hard to read the actual menu options is it?

I mean, it says INTERNET SHARING ON. Below it is an "Open Internet sharing..." option. Is it really THAT hard to make the leap that the way to change the internet sharing settings is to select the Open Internet Sharing... option?

True, however it was still showing said symbol when the option was unclicked.

Restart reset it back though
