I noticed XMMS running on a lot of people's screens, so I decided to give it a go, how do you run this without X11's ugly start bar thingy always present? Is there a version that I can use that doesn't need X11 open to work?

Close the window manager, if it's ice wm running just type "killall icewm" into an xterm.

And then use.. sawfish or something.

Nah. No Aqua port yet.
