Can anyone reccomend me some airplane power adapters for a 15" Al Powerbook? As far as I know airplanes either have the EmPower system or a standard car cigarette lighter plug system... is there a power adapter that does both? A quick search through Google showed only stuff that works with older Powerbooks. Your help is appreciated, thanks!

I don't know of any particular brands, but I think radio shack has adapters to convert the power plug into something your powerbook adapter can take.

I bought an iGo transformer to carry around with me. It comes with a number of adapters for various notebooks and has a plug for the car/airplane. It works just fine. I think Kensington has a similar product.

The Apple Store sells Kensington power adapters that suit your purpose.

Did you have to buy a separate tip or something with the iGo? I'm looking at the PowerXtender70, which is less expensive than the Kensington stuff.

That's the one I have, and it came with the tip I required (and another 9 that I don't need at the moment). I bought it through Mac Warehouse rather than directly from iGo. The iGo web site should be able to tell you which tip number is the one to use with your PowerBook.

I bought the Kensington AC/Car/Air adapter and I love it. I've used it in all 3 circumstances with my 12" Rev. C G4 Powerbook and it works like a champ. Right now, all AirBus planes have the Empower jacks in the armrest and most major airlines are slowly retrofitting their older planes.

I can't attest to the surges, but I agree a second battery is money well spent depending on the circumstances - Granted I don't know what work you do on the plane but if it isn't a movie, you should be able to squeeze 3hrs worth of power per battery, two is enough to get over the Atlantic.
