The iPad Netflix app is now available on iTunes, two days before the device to use it on is even available. I believe ABC's player is available as well, and a Hulu player is probably not too far behind. This is all great...if you have or will have an iPad. But there doesn't seem to be any reason why these apps don't already exist for iPhone/iPod Touch, and there's been no mention about this fact at all.

There's already a large, established base of users with the hardware for running these apps. Or maybe this is a hardware limitation. Do the smaller devices not have the horsepower to play Netflix or Hulu videos?

Any ideas why I can't watch my instant queue on my iPod Touch?

Steve

I'm gonna guess it's a licensing problem.

It's not a horsepower issue. I've actually watched Netflix streams (from my TiVo) on my (1st gen) iPhone with SlingPlayer.

What licensing problem would allow for iPad support but not iPhone support?

If Netflix only has an agreement to stream to "laptop computers" rather than the broader category of "mobile devices".

An argument could be made for that.

I thought I read on Engadget early this morning before the Netflix app was official that it would be coming for the iPhone/iPod touch as well.

Since there is no OS X desktop app for Netflix, I'd say it's the opposite.

A quick search of Engadget reveals no such story.

I do that, too, but I don't think you can compare it to the processing power required to watch a Netflix or Hulu stream.

Why not?

I mean, yeah, with a full bitrate stream, but why would they want to waste their own bandwidth with that.

An iPhone app would get a lower bitrate version.

Obviously you guys haven't been paying attention. Let me try to knock some sense into you for just one more time.

The GodPad will be awesome. Actually, It will be more awesome than awesome. Once you get a GodPad you'll immediately want to burn your desktop, hurl your notebook against the next brick wall, and toss your phone into the trash. Nobody will need any kind of extra 'incentive' to get a GodPad. It will simply take over every computing task and make every other device entirely obsolete. Except maybe for some strange pro application. But nobody really does that anymore. Who'd want to? Just a tiny minority. And who cares anyway? That task is lame. Apple's not lame. Apple's cool. The God Pad's cool. Apple knows what people want. Apple knows what's good for you. The GodPad's good for you. And if you think you might not need a GodPad you're wrong. Everybody needs a GodPad even if they don't know it. Now get that into your silly heads dammit.

Simon actually likes the iPad. He isn't a fan of zealots though. Be that those in Teheran or those on MacNN.

You mean aside from the larger gorgeous screen and blindingly faster image processing and much longer lasting battery? idunno. Pages.app perhaps?

This "toy" loads web pages way faster than my PB-G4.
