I was planning on waiting for Leopard to purchase a new Mac but several Mac resellers are offering a free upgrade to Leopard if you purchase a Mac now.
I've had zero problems, in the past, upgrading from 10.2 to 10.3 to 10.4.
Just wondering if anyone, especially beta testers, has any in-site as to whether or not Leopard will be as easy an upgrade.
Guess what I'm really asking is should I buy now with Tiger and get a free Leopard, or wait unit Leopard comes pre-installed.

There have apparently been some bugs with the upgrade process, but the worst thing that could happen is that you'd have to do a clean install. That would be no different from getting it factory installed.

Talking about "bugs with the upgrade process" doesn't really make much sense, given the product isn't released yet. These things aren't always that important in pre-release software :-P

It's only barely prerelease at this point.

I've never had a problem upgrading. In fact, my current machine probably has files on it that pre-date OSX Public Beta, right back to OS9 (even 8) days.
All these people who advise you clean install each time are just pissing in the wind - there's no real point for most people.
So, yeah, go ahead and buy now if you get a free Leopard upgrade.

I'd do a CLEAN INSTALL with a system backup. Best of both words.
While some may not think it's needed, it DOES make the OS and the system itself run much smoother and a bit more stable.
I have files from back in the classic days still on my HD too. They just aren't system files.

I have had every leopard beta and started using 527 as the first beta that i used as a stable main OS. The upgrade process from Tiger was flawless and 9A559 has Zero problems that I have encountered. If I were you I'd get it now because there is no problems with upgrading at all. I'd go so far as to guarantee it.

I will follow my usual procedure:
1) Wait a week or two and read this board and others to make sure 10.5 doesn't have any show stopper errors;
2) Check and make sure all of the little utilities I use are okay to work with 10.5;
3) Do an Archive and Install.

Smarter than me — I plan to greedily install Leopard the moment it comes in.

That's exactly how to do it. I'm glad though if enough people here don't do it that way so step 1 works out well for me.
