iPod shuffle doesn't sync playcounts?

I have a 512MB iPod shuffle, and it doesn't seem to be reporting updated playcounts to iTunes. I just listened to a song in its entirety on the shuffle, and then plugged it in and synced it with iTunes. iTunes does not show the song as having been played recently, and the playcount has not incremented.
Does anyone else have this behavior?

I've definitely had this problem, but it's been sporadic.

I don't think mine has ever correctly synchronized that info.

The shuffle updates playcounts, but does NOT report the time last played information... b/c it doesn't have a clock.

Here's a link to a script that updates it to the current time. I haven't tried it out yet.

That's not the issue. The issue is that it's not reporting the playcounts.

Sorry to bump my own ancient thread, but after a year of syncing playcounts just fine, recently my shuffle has decided to stop syncing again. I don't know what I originally did to get it working, but resetting it with the iPod Updater app didn't help.
Was this mystery ever solved?
