...Symantec. And by that I mean that the exploit is in Norton AntiVirus. See here for details. There was an alarmist email circulating around campus warning of a "new Mac virus," and later saying that "news sites are already reporting attacks." I couldn't find any such reports anywhere, and since the Symantec page lists it as a local exploit requiring authentication, my BS detector is going crazy.

Anyone hear of this exploit in the wild?

Edit: Update: I contacted the woman who sent out the original email. First she said,
News sites report attacks already taking place. This is a hole in the program that can be exploited and we are expecting to see attacks in a few days.
Then, when pressed to cite new reports of attacks taking place, she said,
This exploit does not have code to exploit it yet. There are NO news reports of this taking place yet, because code has not yet been produced to exploit the problem. When code is produced, the users who have updated will not have any problems.
Get your story straight, lady!

So . . . I guess we are safer without antivirus software . . .

Apple user since 1984, number of viruses - 0.

Who needs viruses when you have Norton. I truly wish some news sites would swallow any potential ad revenue lost and blast Norton for its horrible track record (on OS X).

And yes, I have sent feedback to Apple a number of times chastising them for selling the sh1tty Norton A/V online.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Doesn't matter how nasty they were, I never got one.
