is there such a thing as a cover i can put over my keyboard, to stop dust, but more importantly to guard against accidental spillages of tea, wine, whatever, over my powerbook - something i can leave on all the time prefereably - so something i can type through and that's transparent i guess.

i found this:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....8.25.7.11.9.3

the reviews on that product don't seem great overall. i might give it a try but if anyone's got any other solutions - including home-made solutions, i'd be interested. i don't care what my powerbook looks like, just as long as i've protected it.
it's a 12"
cheers.

Check out the ProTouch keyboard protector.

I've had one on my PB15 for about nine months now and it works great. Good luck.

What's the name of the product?

Anyone else recommend the ProTouch? What about to cover the front half of the laptop - where the trackpad and flat metal is, in front of the keys? The only thing I've found sticks on, which doesn't really appeal to me - I would prefer something I could take on and off easily if needed?
Same with screen covers. I would get one, but the only option being stick on ones, I'm afraid they would leave marks and render themselves redundant.

Wouldn't a keyboard cover make a PB run (a little) hotter?

yeah, that would interest me as well. iSkin claim that the operating temp doesn't signifiantly rise when using the protouch cover..but that's not an independent statement.

Well, since the Powerbooks are aluminium they lose heat from most of the laptop surface quite well ... adding a cover to the keyboard probably wouldn't make much of a difference. I would think heat would be more of an issue for the iBooks, where quite a lot of heat is vented through the keyboard, I believe.

I thought RadTech used to make those keyboard covers, but I couldn't find one on their site.

Since the Powerbook is designed to allow you to run it in closed-lid mode (if you are connected to an external display), it shouldn't matter at all if you cover the keyboard.

B. Gallagher,
I posted this note back in April and this solution still works fine for me. The trackpad and palm rests have survived since that time in perfect condition and the covers are easily removable (though I don't know why you'd want to take them off, except to replace them). Good luck.

You can never be too careful. Once I tipped over a glass of wine at the opposite end of a coffee table from my PB. Some wine shot clear across the table landing on the keyboard! A falling wine glass can be a sort of mini catapult. Luckily (after turning it off, actively drying, then letting it dry out completely overnight) there was no damage.

i bought an iSkin for my keyboard, and i havent noticed it running any hotter than usual. lets see... right now the processor is 133F, and the power supply is 122F... is that to hot?

anyway, the Keyboard Condom as I call it, works great. just my luck i had it temporarily off the one day i spilled my water on it. no permanent damage fortunately.

Don't you hate it when that happens...

I tried the iskin and could not get used to it. I now use the Shaggymac screen protector, its a very useful little device to have around.
