Bioshock 2 Features Co-Op, Doesn't Feature Big Daddies
Of course the biggest two pieces of news are the inclusion of 2-player co-operative play, and the removal of the first game's iconic enemy, the Big Daddy. I suppose it makes sense that they'd be gone now...I just have my doubts that spliced up dogs, Cold War era soviets, and bipedal robots can make up for his absence.

After buying Bioshock 1 year and a half ago, I finally started to play Bioshock.
I've upgraded my PC from windows XP to windows 7 just to play it. Haha...
Why? For directX 10.

Not worth it if you bought 7 just for BioShock DX10, but as its free right now and is a very welcome improvement for Windows, its not a bad idea. Though I kinda sorta bought Vista just for DX10 in Crysis, so I can't talk.

Forgot to mention, Bioshock 2 will include multi. I find this perturbing though. I get the feeling this game is not going to be very much like the first one. In a bad way.

i fear developers are tacking on multi just to say "we have multi!" while i wish they would just be content with making a great single player experience, certain games need multi, some don't. I am also scared of what is to come with bioshock

The idea of multi with plasmids is good. But I fear every second not spent on the story and single-player is going to greatly diminish the product. It has huge boots to fill. I was already skeptical before this.

Game Informer's BioShock 2 cover story is slowly making their way to subscribers, and the real details are far more exciting than the fantasy. Players take control of the very first Big Daddy, and will be able to use plasmids while still donning its iconic drill. Your quest will have you confronting other Big Daddies and a familiar moral dilemma: do you harvest the Little Sisters or do you adopt them?

I'm a little curious if the implication is you can have more than one at a time. I just hope having one doesn't turn into a game-long escort mission where everyone is trying to kill them (which we already experienced at the end of the first game). 'Course if the hop on your back maybe that won't be so bad...

Haha... well, I went from XP to Windows 7 since I'm trying out the beta version for free. Might as well.

Same here. But we really should just give them the benefit of the doubt.
Though multiplayer should still just go out the window. It doesn't fit BioShock. And it's not necessary. Case in point, Fallout 3, called the best game of the year by many. No multiplayer.

Agreed entirely. Unless you really need to converse with someone on XBL about the biting Objectivism commentary throughout the game.
Bioshock was 15 hrs of amazing gameplay when I first played it, nothing inside me said, "Wow, if only I could pwn n00bs with my steam-power shotgun now!"
Here's also hoping they stick with making the campaign as good as it needs to be, hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised with multi.

After a good read through of the GameInformer article, i have a new found optimism for this game. It seems as if they story is going to be awesome and the gameplay will be similar to what we know but with twists and turns we didn't get to experience. I was worried that maybe Rapture would be all to similar to the first game (and its awe inspiring view for the first time would be lost) but it seems as if 2k has some good ideas. Just don't ruin it with some 'average' multiplayer that i wont' ever play.

stogie, assuming you're serious, I wouldn't be posting stuff like that outside of PM or Live chatter. There's enough info on this forum that if some site picked that rumor up, 2k could probably figure out who your brother is.

I don't know...
EDIT: After a couple re-watches, I've got a few things to say.
The feel of the game seems exactly like the first.
The drill seems exactly like those power swords from Halo. And for the life of me I can't think of the name of them.
I'm going to love this game. I just need to get the first BioShock. STILL!

Deferentially looks like the first, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, i'm excited to explore some more of Rapture, and experience more of what it has to offer.
Although it will be hard/impossible to compete with the first one it could prove to be a great sequel, time will tell.

One of my questions answered:
JP: Your Little Sister, like the Big Daddy's Little Sister, is invulnerable. So, you know, if you ever tried to shoot one in the head, they are completely invulnerable as a part of just being creepy little zombie girls. And so you're honestly in no danger while she's riding around.
Zak: On the game mechanics side, really that's driven by the fact that we know that escort missions aren't very fun because if your subject dies, then, you know, you have to start over again.

This will not make you feel good.
My comments in bold.
Key features:
? Evolution of the genetically enhanced shooter – Earn experience points during gameplay to earn access to new Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics that can be used to create hundreds of different combinations, allowing players to develop a unique character that caters to their playing style.
So vets will have huge advantages? In my experience systems like this breed a limited amount of viable combos.
? Extend the Rapture fiction – Players will step into the shoes of Rapture citizens and learn more about the fall of Rapture as they progress through the experience.
Uh, ok.
? See Rapture before the fall – Experience Rapture before it was reclaimed by the ocean and engage in combat over iconic environments in locations such as Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites, all of which have been reworked from the ground up to deliver a fast-paced multiplayer experience.
Finally, pristine environs. Sounds great.
? FPS veterans add their touch to the multiplayer experience – Digital Extremes brings more than 10 years of first person shooter experience including development of award-winning entries in the Unreal® and Unreal Tournament® franchise.
Extremely troubling. Usually when you say 'x' amount of years, 'x' is the total of everyone involved. In this case 10 years sounds ridiculously low. Three guys who's only effort was an early FPS for the 360 would bring 10 years of experience to the table.

Kotaku - Bioshock 2 Multiplayer Impressions: That Sinking Feeling - bioshock 2
Which all sounds nice enough, but at the same time, looks a little "tits on a bull", if you'll pardon the expression.
Bioshock was a game renowned for its singleplayer experience, and it's hard seeing how tacking three multiplayer game modes with a limited number of players onto the sequel will count for much of anything. I mean, it seemed to work fine and all, but just did not once ever make me think fickle multiplayer devotees would stop playing Call of Duty or Team Fortress 2 for this.
On the bright side, this has no bearing whatsoever on the game's singleplayer component...
Pretty strong words.

Meh, personally I'm not concerned about the multi player aspect of Bioshock. I treat it like the multi player of GTA4.
