I took my 12" G4 to the local apple store, 40 miles away, to have it looked at by the Genius Bar. The problem is that it will not accept discs into the combo dirve. Now it is being sent away for "7 to 10" days. The good part is it is being sent back to me at home so I don't have to go pick it up at the store.

Has anyone had a similar experience? How accurate is the 7-10 day estimate?

At least it is still under warranty. The "free" $268.00 repair will no go toward paying for three years of extended applecare!

Applecare is not for an extra 3 years. It's for an extra 2 years which, when combined with the original 1 year warranty, gives you 3 total years of coverage.
