Does OS X support Drag and Drop burning on the fly? Or do I have to pick Toast or some other program. Thanks

If you mean using a CD-RW like a floppy, adding or deleting files a little at a time, then no. But if you just mean dragging and dropping files to a disk in the finder and burning it, then yes.

Packet writing still isn't supported by Macs. Direct CD used to be available for OS9 but was abandoned. Nothing has happened for over two years now.

However, drag-and-drop disc creation does not support multiple sessions. There is a less intuitive way to burn CD-R(W) that does support multiple sessions. You can create a read/write disc image with the included Disk Copy app and then burn the image as a single session.
