I was wondering if theres anywhere to see a good tutorial on making elements appear sunken. I've achieved this a few times but i never get the exact look im after im trying to achieve somthing like in max's aqua extreme.

Try this too:
1. Select your area < cmd+click+target layer >
2. Select modify > expand > 1 or 2 pixels
3. Create a new layer
4. Fill with a black/dark grey to white gradient <dark at the top>
5. Set your layer blending to soft light
Congrats you have just created an inset for your button!

In the general interest category, eyeball-design has some good tutorials on the basics. Click on the Tutorials button at the bottom and scroll to the old tutorials at the bottom of the resulting page.
