I just noticed, in the "firewall" tab of the sharing preferences, a 3rd party service item that I did not install/add. Searching my harddrive reveals no file that matches this service.

It was on (allowing access to my computer through a specific port). I've since turned it off and replaced my passwords etc.

how can i look into the history of my machine to find out where this thing came from and what it's been doing???

i recently installed Xgrid. and the hotmail mail.app plugin. not sure if these have anything to do with this.

Do you think it might be helpful to mention WHICH "3rd party service"?

Yup! "LIGHTNING"

Although, I figured it out. I did install it. A long time ago. It opens a port for the game "Lightning's Shadow" so all is well. I just kinda freaked me out because I didn't remember putting it there.
