I click the Web Clips button in Safari .. highlight the content I want .. then click "Add."

I then activate Dashboard, scroll to the Web Clips icon and click it.

All I get is a white box with the Safari logo which reads "Web Clips are created using Safari's 'Open in Dashboard' feature... Click on the Safari icon to launch Safari."

WTF am I missing? Where's MY content? I scroll the Dashboard list and there are no new custom widgets with my stuff... And there's no "i" button on the aforementioned white box for settings. If I click the Safari icon, it just launches the browser.

What am I not getting?

When you add a web clip through Safari it should be automatically be added to Dashboard so you shouldn't even have to click on the Web Clips icon in Dashboard.

So something seems to be wrong with your installation.

Darn. That's what I was afraid of. The problem is the same on my G5 iMac and C2D MacBook. What gives?

Nah, the feature isn't THAT important to me. I have NO other issues or annoyances with Leopard. Installs went great and everything except for Web clips has been working just fine.

Are you opening Dashboard yourself? If you do that too quickly after clicking the Add button, it seems like the clip doesn't get added. It should just open Dashboard on its own after you do the clip.

Yes. Maybe that's it. I always click Add, then immediately hit my Dock's Dashboard icon. I've never clicked Add, then waited. At work now, so I'll have to wait 9 more hours before I can try it out.

So where do these Web Clips get saved? I created a few to play with, then closed them. They don't appear on the Dashboard and I don't see them in the Widgets folder in Username > Library > Widgets. So how does one open them again and/or delete them? Or are they only temporary?

Okay. I've tried clicking Add, then just waiting. Dashboard does open, rather quickly, too... But no new widget appears... Either on the Dashboard layer or anywhere else. Weird.

I'm still trying to get the point of Dashboard. Okay so we've got widgets. But we can't leave them open and visible because as soon as we click anywhere else, all the widgets vanish.

The idea is that they're quick little mini-apps that you can access quickly with a hotkey and then get back to your work just as easily. I don't find it that useful either, though.

Just as a tip, though, if you type com.apple.dashboard devmode YES, you can drag Dashboard widgets to your normal (non-Dashboard) desktop. It's actually been improved to Leopard so that they stay put even after you call Dashboard again.

I'm having exactly the same problem: web clips made in Safari don't appear. Clearly there's a bug.

Doesn't work for me on my Quad G5, I click the webclip button, choose the area and click OK but then nothing, Dashboard doesn't even activate. Was an archive install from 10.4, keeping users and network settings.

It is, however, fine on my machine at work (intel iMac, white) which was an archive upgrade from a previous ADC build. Very weird.

//// PROBLEM SOLVED ////

I discovered the following in the Apple "Support Discussions" section.

From within Safari, go to your Menubar. Then go to:

Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Style Sheet

Make sure "None Selected" is showing.

After you exit Preferences, try Web Clips again. It should work. It did on my G5 iMac and C2D MacBook.

FWIW, I had "linkcolours.css" selected. That's not something I ever remember changing. What is that exactly? I know... I could look it up or RTFM, but someone here knows, right?
