Hey guys, I know there is a Wii thread already but it started before it was even out. I just wanted to know if those who own a Wii think it was a good buy?

The Wii came out today in Australia and I had the chance to have a go of Tennis. Was fun but not enough of a chance to get a good feel of the controls.

So what say you Wii owners? Yay or nay?

Thanks

MM

It only has a handful of games out right now, but I'm enjoying it. I definitely consider it a good purchase so far.

I think it depends on what you want out of a video game console.

I'm always on the verge of buying one of them, but I know it'd drastically diminish my already non-existant productivity

haha, it would/will kill my productiveness also

true it only has few games but the controller style is so promising.
I would get Zelda with the console then maybe Red Steel.

I love my DS and have been a fan of Nintendo since I was a kid.

I guess I just wanted to hear people say buy one

Red Steel is getting pretty much universal bad reviews so you might want to avoid it.

You know, now that I have a Wii, how cool would it be to have a lightsaber game?

Press A and swing.

If only someone could have warned you how terrible it was.

I'm enjoying the Wii, and yes even Red Steel, which is the only game besides Wii Sports I own at the moment (I had gotten Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but sold it to another member of the board).

When I first played Red Steel, I was disillusioned, but as I've progressed in it, I find it better than I thought, and the gun and sword play is fun, even if the latter is a bit tiring (as in physically!).

Still, I admit that I've been playing more GameCube games than Wii games, just because there are so few Wii titles out there, but that'll change as the months pass by and I'll be picking up a few more worthy titles.

Well, so does the PS4 if we count titles that'll be released sometime in the vague future. The selection is a little more limited than that right now.

According to this list the Wii launch game average is slightly better than the XB360, and definitely better than the PS3.

I had a Wii for a little over a wiik...

Zelda was an incredible game, but I sold the console because my gaming interests lie mainly in sports games and to a lesser extent, first-person shooters and GoW type games. The Wii is going to have some great games, but I'm not sure about its future third-party support.

I'm also concerned about the Wiimote being misused. I get a feeling that a lot of games will tack on some gimmicky use of the remote when a more conventional might have played better (see Mario 3 on 3 Basketball for DS). As long as they use it well, it'll be fine. I'm just scared about how some of these ideas are going to translate to the screen.

Graphics are another consideration. I raved about how the graphics didn't matter before I got my Wii, but after I had it home I realized that it mattered more to me than I thought it did. These are first-gen Wii games that we're looking at, but they'll probably max out the Wii's capabilities fairly soon, considering that this is technology that developers are already familiar with. That being, said, the art direction in Zelda did, IMHO, make up for the good, but not incredible, graphics. But if graphics are a big deal to you, then you might be disappointed.

I'd say the Wii is going to be very fun in the short-term. Whether or not it remains a great experience is left up to third-party developers. Nintendo is sure to put out some incredible games (always), but as it stands the Wii looks to be a better secondary console than the system you play most of your games on. Then again, there are many Nintendo lovers that would disagree.

I sold my Wii on eBay and decided to stick with the XBox 360 as my main console. If I have the money and the Wii puts out some very good software, I might consider buying one again in about a year or so, but I'm keeping my 360 for sure (I had to swear to the wife).

Just got mine yesterday.

My only real complaint is the region coding bull shyte... Sony got that right surprisingly. but so far.... lovin it.... i never played any SNES/N64 games so to have access to that library from a single console will be great. Zelda is fun and entertaining. Wii sports is amazing. All-in-all, definate value for your $$$.

Have fun

yeah must be a good buy.

I can't find one anywhere!

They have sold over 32,000 units in four days in Australia. Not bad.

I guess I'll have to wait till after christmass

I ran across the Spike TV "Video Game Awards" fiasco last night (I think it was last night) just as they were listing sports games. One was a tennis title and I suddenly realized I would never want to have to go back to button mashing to play a tennis or golf video game. It seems so lame to do so post-Wii.

The Wii's controller is the sort of thing where u wonder why no one thought of it before imo. Just like the mouse was to me anyway.

fairly disappointed with it really. once the hype wore off i lost all interest.. controller was kind of annoying to use for me as well

pretty much agree with everything jawbone mentioned

i am, however enjoying my xbox 360 like i've never enjoyed a console before... it is really in a different range compared to the wii, especially price wise, though..
