I remember the make or break title for any computer based DVD player, PS2 , and Home players was measured if it could play Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition flawlessly!!!

PS2 couldn't, most Home players couldn't, PIONEER players "COULD" flawlessly, but os9 nor windows players could play it at all.

Could someone who has osx 10.1 and T2 U.E please try it...I'm curious.
I can't try it cause apple is screwing us hardware dvd player users....

One reason why its a bastard to play is because it is the most compressed dvd out, having 4 versions of the movie and extra's says it all.

It has 3 versions of the movie, but that doesn't mean it super-compressed.
What it has is called "seamless branching." If you select the longest, most complete version, it simply plays start to finish. If you play the shorter ones, it just skips sections. There's not 3 completely seperate versions of the movie on there!

Or how about "the Matrix." Not my favorite film, but as I remeber it was one of the first hybrid DVDs and didn't play on all DVD players or on Macs. Maybe later revs of the classic DVD player fixed this; I dunno since I don't have a DVD drive. So how's it play on X?

Perfectly. 2nd film I've watched start to finish, 1st being Rushmore.

When testing the DVD capabilities of 10.1, the first DVD I tried didn't play--in fact the OS never even recognized the disk; it just sat there on the drive without ever appearing in the Finder. That was the just-released "Batman: the Movie." This bodes not well, I thought.

My subsequent DVD trials (Big Lebowski and PowerPuff Girls) worked fine, and the OS X DVD player is pretty damn sweet, though I was able to skip it (by opening System Preferences and giving it a good shake right on top of the player window, a pretty harsh test and not something that would likely happen under normal use). I'd be interested to know if any other Batman owners (the original Adam West film mind you) have experienced similar problems.

The 10.1 DVD player seems to have a problem with the menu rollovers on the Gremlins DVD (white cover DVD).

It works, it is just messy.

This is OT, but newer PS2s (model no. SCPH-30001R) have a DVD driver upgrade. This article about an official Sony remote references this. A CD-ROM comes with the remote to update the drivers on older models. Since I have T2UE and a fairly new PS2, I'll go check this out tonight.

LOL. I never thought I'd find someone else who has that movie.

Sensible or not, I just tried it and it still doesn't work. I suppose it could be a hardware issue; this is a G4 350 Mhz AGP and I imagine the current G4s use a different drive. Suggestions?
