Super simple information design. I love when you click on a section of the directions it will actually give you a close up of the exit ramp or intersection.

I tried loading it in Safari. They do at least let you try. But it doesn't do what it does in the supported browsers. Like clicking each step and seeing what the map looks like zoomed in there. Wow it's really nice. It'd be cool if there was a way to print out each of those individual turns so you can see what other roads are around. Just print a sheet of those squares. That'd be cool. Maybe some feedback?

Edit: I sent feedback about that idea. However, this mapping is really cool. You can search out restaurants and stuff and then finding directions to it is really easy. They really did a nice job with it.

nice find, I like how you can use the arrow keys to move around. so much easier than jumping around with the clickable arrows on other maps.

Like Xeo, I really like how you can see a zoomed-in version of every step. Pretty nifty feature.

Pretty cool, I knew someone could do a better job at this than Mapquest. I wonder if they also make it easy to integrate their maps/directions into your own business website.

Wow this is incredible, as if it was developed by people from Apple. I wish they made a Standalone app based on this technology, available on a DVD or something!

A lot of licensing will have to go into that. Google has some special web objects application running this baby. Unless, a 3rd party can come up with a way to render this specifically in a small window using WebKit?

Did you notice that you can drag the map to move it?

I just found google maps today, and it just blew me away. Google makes web applications more responsive than many native GUI apps!

They actually have very detailed maps of Ontario, even remote areas. And I'm assuming the rest of Canada too, I'm just not sure what to look for.

Actually, I don't think it is intentional. If you click "Did you mean hateful fear mongers?" (two words, not one), you get a few more locations, some on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

I think it just uses those terms to google locations in washington from their regular search engines and then plots them.

ya. you can double click on the map, and it centers under where you double clicked too.

Map24 is pretty nice! I used Mappy until now but I'm switching for this reason: there's this symbol at the exact place where I live and a mouseover showed my name and address

They show a select number of points of interest and I'm one of them. I feel so proud

Map24 currently show a lot more detail (restaurants mostly) for my neighborhood, but they showed 2 streets incorrectly. You'd get lost if you tried to use the map.
Google's map was more bare-bones, but at least it got the streets right.

Well they have Winnipeg, the Map is not ENTIRELY up to date but it's pretty good. It didn't find my street sadly, but it was on the map so I'm not sure what they're doing wrong. Or I did wrong... whatever, they did have an address On the street which worked out well.

Winnipeg is about as far north as they get with it. Calgary, for example, isn't on the map in full detail, though Lethbridge, ab is

Crazy, I just visited a few states and places where I used to live and work... I had forgotten some details of streets I crossed and stuff that was around in relation to my destination.

Very cool... from Landery, WY to Arlington, VA, it got it right. I'm sold.

Only the bottom 2/3 of North America. Winnipeg, Manitoba is the furthest north major city.

You know what's fun...

Zoom out maximum, and double click in some random place in America (with your eyes closed so you don't know where you clicked)./

Then zoom in to the knotch above the half-way knotch (7 down from the top).

And drag the map to your street, find your way home

It should take 5-15 minutes if you're bored enough to do it and have a little fun.

If you noticed, when something like that results in an address, there's a link (in this case one at "typepad.com") and at least "500 more." Google uses its own search engine to let searches like "hateful fearmongers" result in something like this (when related to the company or address). Google remains unbiased while the websites its searches reach don't.

Anyways, Google Maps shows incredible promise; I love it.

I have no knowledge about the geography of Canada, but it appears to be in Google maps.

Is it really true that the forests at the border between Canada and Alaska are differently deforested or is that an error in Google maps?

Ya, the rest of Canada was filled in sometime this week. I've been waiting for maps of Edmonton and Calgary which were both just north of what was available.
