The second-largest clothing chain in the US, Kohl's -- a company that has long supported Apple Pay in its stores for use with registered and supported credit and debit cards -- has now become the first business in the US to support Apple Pay for use with its own store credit card. Owners of the card can now add them to Wallet on some iPad and iPhone models, as well as the Apple Watch, running iOS 9. JC Penny's and BJ's warehouse club are expected to soon follow suit.
Apple has subsequently updated its
page of Apple Pay-supporting vendors to add Kohl's. Other vendors who have announced intentions to add store and loyalty cards to Apple Pay include Starbucks, Panera Bread, and Walgreens. The move follows the addition of some
72 additional supporting banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions now supporting Apple Pay on their credit and debit cards last week, bringing the total number of supporting card issuers up to 605 (counting the new addition of Kohl's).
Maps adds 'Nearby' search, Flyover to more cities
Yesterday, Apple updated its Maps applications for iOS and OS X to activate
new "Nearby" search options for Australia, Canada, France, and Germany, as well as adding additional Flyover views for parts of Hawaii and a number of European and other cities. The "Nearby" function overlays some local business or point-of-interest information to Maps destinations, making it easier to find local establishments and attractions. Categories include Health, Food, Shopping, Services, and other categories.
Flyover views were added to maps of 15 cities around the world, including Prague (Czech Republic); Gorge du Verdon (France); Bielefeld (Germany); Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nagoya, Okayama, Osaka, and Sendai (Japan); Talum (Mexico); Porto (Portugal); Leon (Spain), Basel (Switzerland), and two places in the US -- Hawaii (Big Island), and Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. The company is also thought to be adding street-level mapping to its program, but hasn't implemented that feature yet.
