Hey all,

So I've got this brilliant 23" display, and now an Xbox. The only HD solution I've been able to come up with so far is rather costly:

* Vdigi Xbox -> VGA adaptor ($85)
* Dr. Bott DVIator, ADC -> DVI ($95)
* Dr. Bott DVI-VGA adaptor ($28)

That's pretty expensive for what it is.

I already have a Miglia TV card, so I can do standard def S-video. Just wondering if anyone knew of a nice way to get HD from their Xbox onto one of these screens.

Thanks!

Slightly cheaper is to use the new Eye-TV Wonder USB 2. Its not much cheaper ($150), but its a TV tuner as well.
AT&T iPhone 5S and 6; 13" MBP; MDD G4.

I see there is an HD tuner, but it's $350.

Sending the HD input to the display via the computer will result in loads of lag though.

I don't know anything about gaming hardware, but if the Xbox has DVI output, then it's easy. If not, it's not worth the trouble and you should get a different display (e.g. a Dell with component video and VGA inputs.)

The $28 Dr. Bott DVI-VGA adaptor is just a pin converter, not a signal converter (which you need). Signal converters are about $300.

The "cheap" way is to buy a 24" HD Dell LCD. But you still need the Vdigi Xbox -> VGA adaptor.

The Xbox 360 comes with VGA out, so you don't even need the Vdigi adapter. Here are some pics of that setup in action.

Could a console and computer be plugged in to the Dell 24" screen at the same time, Mac through DVI and console through VGA, S Video or composite? Would it need a switch to go from one signal to the other, or would it just pick up whichever machine was turned on?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Yes. You can switch between displaying the two with the push of a button, use Picture in Picture (one overlaid on the other), or use Picture by Picture (each gets part of the screen).

Wow ! The Dell monitor does that by itself from 2 inputs??? I'm impressed.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I thought that the PiP source can only be S-Video, Composite, or Component? Are you sure the PiP source can also be Analog VGA?

As far as I know, and as ben.mcguire confirms, you an use any two of the five inputs for PiP and PbP.

On older Dell models, it was so. But on the newest ones, like the 2005FPW and 2405FPW, the multiple inputs are all equals, and it can do all the fun stuff with any input.

The device I mentioned seems to have disappeared and replaced by a different one. The device I mentioned though does zero hardware compression and from everything I have read (and e-mails with el-gato) works just fine with consoles.

Personally I find it hilarious that you have the hots for my gramma. Especially seeins how she is 3x your age, and makes your Brittney-Spears-wannabe 30-something wife look like a rag doll who went thru WWIII with a burning stick of dynamite up her a** :)
