girl quits job on dry erase board exposes farmville boss called her hopa theCHIVE

I'm not up with internet memes, so I don't know if this has been around everywhere yet. I thought it was funny anyway.

I just saw that for the first time today. And I disagree: that's a great way to quit your job.

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species

He'll learn to treat his HOPAs better.

Although I'm confused... is it HOPA or HPOA? HOPA sounds better but the letters are in the wrong order.

Not sure. But however it's spelled, she is one.

I wonder if the unemployment benefits will last for the time it takes to find a new job.

You get benefits if you quit?

Over here, you have to BE quit in order to collect benefits.

I dunno, I think the flight attendant from JetBLue quit mo better.
Of course he doesn't have boobies, which is all that really matters in this case, so I guess I'm wrong.

Heh, I was just about to post about that.

https://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/10/n...=steven_slater

After a dispute with a passenger who stood to fetch luggage too soon on a full flight just in from Pittsburgh, Mr. Slater, 38 and a career flight attendant, got on the public-address intercom and let loose a string of invective.

Then, the authorities said, he pulled the lever that activates the emergency-evacuation chute and slid down, making a dramatic exit not only from the plane but, one imagines, also from his airline career.

On his way out the door, he paused to grab a beer from the beverage cart. Then he ran to the employee parking lot and drove off, the authorities said.

"One ticket to Washington, please. I have a date with destiny."

Ugh. It was TWO beers.

That's the single greatest detail from that whole story, the fact that he grabbed TWO beers from the cart before hitting the slide, and the NYT gets its wrong. Thankfully, the WSJ is on it!

You think? I guess I prefer the glasses/ponytail look. Makes her seem more like a hot librarian, "seemingly meek but really a freak". In those pics she looks so much like my wife Kim that it shocked me for a sec.

Good. What an idiot.

I mean, quitting a job you don’t like in style is fine. But emergency slides are expensive (a plane technician once told me they’re about $20,000 each, though I don’t know how true or applicable that is), the door would need to be refitted on the plane, all the other passengers don’t need to be subjected to this selfish bastard’s bile—and most of all, the plane wouldn’t be able to fly wherever it’s headed to next and a whole bunch of new passengers would need to be rebooked/reboarded to get to their destination.

This is going to cost the airline, at a guess, at least $50,000. All because this guy couldn’t just be the bigger man and have a good vent about the idiot passenger in the stewards’ lounge after work, but had to put on this spectacle. What a moron.

Considering that airport fees can run around $10,000 an hour per plane per gate, and that this plane is not going to be in service for a couple of days, losing the airline money every minute, I'm thinking more around ten times your estimate, and probably more than that.

Right, hadn’t even thought about airport fees and such things (though, if they were on the mark, they should still have been able to get all the passengers out and have the plane taxied away from the gate within an hour). The rest I guess depends on how quickly they’re able to get a substitute plane in place, or if they even have one available to take over this one’s schedule.

But yeah, I was being very gracious and figuring the absolute minimum, if everything goes as smoothly and perfectly as could possibly be imagined.

I was told by a flight attendant a while back that they're more like $150,000 to replace (maybe taking into account the total cost of putting the plane out of service, installation etc). Plus he stole two beers.

That said, I kind of have to wonder, in a way, if there isn't a PR benefit to this.

From Jet Blue's website, these were apparently his options:

Blue Moon
Bud Light
Heineken
Heineken Premium Light
Fosters Lager
Presidente Beer

Nothing too appetizing, IMO. I probably would have gone with the Blue Moon. Of course, if I were in this position I would have gone for the hard stuff:

Skyy® Vodka
Jack Daniel's® Whiskey
Glenlivet Scotch®
Bacardi® Rum
Beefeater Gin®
Sauza® Tequila
Malibu® Rum
Kahlua®

I hope the guy sets up a site for any legal costs thrown against him.

I'll gladly chip in for his defense.

The guy's a hero. He did something that 99% of people have wanted to do themselves, or wanted to see someone else do: yell at some asshat making their job hell and then quit in spectacular fashion, oh yeah, and inflaing that ****ing plastic water-slide thing on an airplane. I've flown a bazillion times- they always promise the possibility of getting to see that, I've never seen it, always wanted to.)

JetBlue should just let it go, and in fact, run with it. (I like JetBlue, they already seem to be a thinking out-of-box type company). Hire the guy back as a spokesman. "Don't want to run into me on a flight? Then put your bag where it belongs, sit in your seat, and shut up!"

Print up that two-fisted slide image (classic!) and slap it on the sides of the planes. Hell, I want that on a t-shirt.

They should do it like a GEICO commercial.

"We've hired actor Samuel L. Jackson to help Steven Slater explain JetBlue's policy on airplane safety."

So far they're acting very corporate about it, as evidenced by the Andy Borowitz v JetBlue back and forth on twitter (some NSFW language).
