I have had a media center box running for a while now 1.7ghz P4 768MB RAM running XP MCE 2005.. I just got a Celeron 2.66ghz Processor today out of a machine with a bad psu and hard drive..
So which processor should I use.. Stick with the 1.7ghz P4 or drop in the celeron 2.66ghz .. I know clock speed would help but any other differences btwn the P4 and the Celeron

The clockspeed and the faster FSB would help, but the smaller cache will hurt.
I don't know what all you're using your HTPC for, but I'd try the celery to see if the experience improves.

Everybody loves fast computers. By that alone, I think you should give the faster processor a try to see what it would turn out.

First it depends on what model P4 you have. If it is a northwood cpu, it will outperform the celeron no matter how much higher its frequency is. Download cpu-z and see what model it is, if its not a northwood I would stick with the P4 but any other I would go for the celeron.
