I'm a Mac nooob. What are the recommended things to install / setup so that I can play multiple video formats? If possible I would like to do this using either FrontRow or the AppleTV applescript from jonandnic dot com Blog Archive Turning a Mac Mini into an AppleTV.

Thanks!

Perian covers most things (and is a qt component unlike VLC). Flip4Mac is essential. In general if you're in-touch enough to have the esoteric formats that aren't covered by those, you're in-touch enough to find the codecs too (if they exist; you won't find some things for mac, notably DRM WMV)

Thanks for the tips ... What are the advantages of being a QT component? Better integration with Front Row?

Yes, and better integration with OS X in general.
