Using Boot Camp I installed Windows XP with Service Pak I on my Macbook OSX 10.4.7 But the Macbook drivers cannot be enabled in SP-1, consequently:
1. Plays DVD movies but no sound.
2. LCD brightness buttons F1 and F2 don't work
3. The CD/DVD eject button doesn't work
4. Airport wireless capability does not work
5. Does not even accept direct wired ethernet to router for internet.
After many hours of searching, I discovered in Apple Knowledge base that the XP cd MUST have SP2 on that single CD; will NOT accept a separate CD for SP2.
So, if anyone managed to work around this, would you like to share your experience with those in my situation?
I'm unwilling to spend $150 to buy an XP SP2 cd, unless it can be legally obtained for, say, under $50.
Has anyone managed to run Windows XP with SP1 in Parallels?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Why would you want to use an unsecure, half-crippled OS? You can use a FREELY DOWNLOADABLE SP2 file and free software to create an installable XP + SP2 disc (see the Slipstreaming thread at the top of this forum), and all it takes is a bit of time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Now I will try to Slipstream 3 CDs into one CD:
1. The Windows XP SP1 cd
2. The XP SP2 upgrade cd
3. The Macbook driver cd created from Boot Camp.
Hope it will not be a bumpy ride.

Slipstreaming is pretty easy, you should only need the final slipstreamed XP SP2 disc and the Macbook driver disc (in other words, 2 CDs, not 1).

I'd keep the MacBook driver CD separate. It won't necessarily do what the Windows installer expects. On the other hand, slipstreamed XP SP1 + SP2 (which will produce effectively a completely up to date SP2 install disc) WILL work fine.

I have a macbook (black) 2.0 ghrz 2.0 gb ram
I'm running windows XP sp1 and need to upgrade to sp2, but I can't there is some funny error that does not allow it to happen. I have a legit copy of xp sp1. On the other hand, I managed to install the drivers for all the hardware, but I could not install the drivers for the iSight built-in camera and the ethernet port.
here is the trick to get everything to install except the camera and the ethernet port:
1. insert the disc for the drivers that mac os X created in boot camp
2. go to run and type in "D:drivers" (make sure the cd rom is drive D)
3. navigate in the folders and click on installers. Notice some installers won't work.
in order to get the keyboard shortcuts to work you will have to install a key remapper
here is the link for it
Useful Software
cheers and let me know if you manage to upgrade to winxp sp2
