I have Mac OS X installed on two seperate HDs. The reason for this is one is one HD is used as a repair HD for my main HD. Anyway, when I try to open up documents often both Previews will be opened up, or both of another application will be opened up. How do I make it where my main HD only opens documents with it's own applications?
Thanks in advanced.

If you just use the second drive as a "repair HD" why not just unmount the drive while you're working?

Won't I have to unmount it upon each time I start up? Isn't there another way? (sometimes I also back up some files on it too)

I think the system will chose the newer version of the app regaurdless where it resides. If this is annoying you, simply get info on text documents and choose the default app to open with and apply to others. Do this for movies, and other file formats that you have this problem with.

what happens if you put the other drive's Applications folder on a disk image and and unmount it, then delete the originals?

Norm, do this:
Close all running applications
Delete the following two files:
com.apple.LaunchServices.plist found in Home/Library/Preferences
com.apple.LaunchServices.UserCache.csstore found in Home/Library/Caches
Empty the Trash
Restart.
This will reset file associations in the finder, so it will open the apps on your boot volume again. The instructions come from http://railheaddesign.com/
