OS X Installation Question

So the other day I was trying to restore my computer and install OS X again. I got through the whole "erase and install" part, but when it starts to actually install the OS the computer says the disc is unreadable, but there are NO scratches at all on the disc. I also have an iMac so i was wondering if i could just use it's installation discs to install OS X on my Macbook. Can any of you guys tell me if that would work or not?

Which is unreadable the optical disc or the hard disk?
Does the install disc say "For Mac Computers" or does it specify a Mac name (ie. iMac, MacBook, etc.)? If it says "For Mac Computers" it'll work, you just might not get the complete set of default extra applications that originally are assigned to your particular model.

The optical disc is unreadable, and the iMac install disc specifies that it's for an iMac.
I didn't think there would be any differences in the applications or anything because i bought them around the same time, and they both are core 2 duo's with the isight camera's.

Try seeing if your MacBook's install disc(s) are truly un-readable by loading them into your iMac. This will confirm if its a drive issue or a disc issue. Do you have another known good bootable disc like a Leopard install disc?
Will Apple Hardware Test boot from the MacBook restore disc number 1? Apple Hardware Test (AHT) and the assigned applications are the main software components assigned to the individual machine restore discs. But yes, you can boot from the iMac restore discs in the meanwhile. Keep in mind that if you call up Apple support and give them your MacBook's serial number they'll replace your restore discs.

Alright thanks for the help, but now i think i might have stumbled on to something else. I was trying to install the discs again, and this time without having a unreadable disc error it just says "There was an error installing the software, plase try installing the software again."

Okay i don't mean to double post or anything, but i just wanted to say that the iMac install discs did not work with the Macbook. So i guess i'll just be getting Leopard for Christmas!
