This is an offshoot of another topic...

It's for protecting the ports from dust. I would love to have one if it is available in France or the US. But you know what?? You just can't get one outside Japan. Damn the Japanes!!! (Just being extremely jealous)

I spoke with Bill from MacsOnly http://www.macsonly.com/home.html and he is looking into importing the port protector. I am sure we can generate enough orders to justify this don't you think? I will be posting updates.

Great work! I have already written to Bill about the palm protection. The port cover seems like a good idea, too, especially for travelling. Thanks!

Mac users are really on the ball. I'm glad to hear that Bill at MacsOnly is looking into importing the port protector. And seeing how much he's been able to get out of Japan in the past, I have no doubt that we'll all be ordering this part within a few weeks.

I wrote too. Also, did you check out the replacement keys at MacImports?

Hi MaxMac,

It's really nice to hear that news. I was so preoccupied with Palmrest protector, I didn't really think about this product. Anyway, if Bill is having one of those left until I order my palmrest protector, I will order it too.

PS. Creating an account on PayPal is really a pain. I have to wait 3 business days to confirm an account. Making a bank account takes less than that.

The keys were very cool, I hope they come out with one for the current iBook too. I would really like a back-lit keyboard!

Wow...I guess this is just another example of the Japanese jumping on new ideas. Remember a month or so ago when I and a few other posters here threw this idea back and forth? I guess none of us took the initiative to actually do something about it and now the Japanese have. <sigh> Oh well...

Bill from MacsOnly.com is still looking into the port protector, but I ordered some of the palm rests from him in the mean time. Throw this guy some business, we should reward the little guy who is actually trying to meet our needs, and doing a better job of it than the big guys!

My iBook arrived just minutes ago (I can't play with it since I'm still at the office ). I didn't realize that the ports are all flush with the side of the computer. I assumed that there was a recessed section for the ports. How will this thing [Port Protector] look, since it will be sticking out a bit?

I don't know, but I am going to take a shot at it. I figure it will stick out about as much as the feet. We will see (I hope).

I'm Yusuke Okudaira at Office P-Point in Japan. I've produced the port
cover, I/O Protector. Currently they are sold only in Japan. But I'd like
to sell them in the US, too. I'm looking for a company which can deal with
this product. If you have good information about it, please e-mail to
[email protected]

Other comments or questions are also welcome.

Competition is good. Today MacNN announced a similar product at
http://www.fueldesigninc.com/ibook/portector.jpg

It is spelled Portector. Price not specified.

Don't you think that vSee product looks kind of cheap compared to the Japanese one??? Just a personal impression.

I wonder how much these things are going to cost. I don't think I'd pay more than $15 US for something like that.
The main thing would be cost and availability and if it fits snuggly.
Whadya think?

Yeah, I would say 10-15 would be the most I would pay. I mean its still only a piece of molded rubber. But I still want one soon.

"Mamoru" (actually this means" protect" in Japanese) in the top picture originally costs only 900 yen, that is less than $9. I don't know how much it would be once exported to US.
