In the rain.
It's sooo calm in the rain. No bumps, just smoooooth air.
And no air traffic! All of the students and VFR pilots are pretty much grounded.

Guess you don't drive a car? I think statistically, flying is safer than driving.

I passed ground school be never managed to get lessons. Someday.

Keep dreaming to fly! One day you'll get your ticket!

Yes I head, it was actually at Coney Island Beach.
He was low and slow. He stalled it and it spun in. Killing all 4. Sad indeed.
Doing stupid things gets you killed. Even in a car.

Way Cool!

One question: Why is is so smoooooth when flying in rain? I thought clouds and stuff were what caused turbulence?

One small complaint: The soundtrack was a bit too loud to hear all the talking.

Thanks for the ride, though.

Weather 101.
All of the uplifting action has stopped. Theses slow steady rains are in stable air. The warm air is no longer rising and it's cooling down. A smooth ride. Now in unstable air where thinderstorms are forming, it's rough. REAL ROUGH!.
Also after the rain/clouds have moved out, it's the clearest skies you'll ever fly in.
No haze what-so-ever! You can see 50+ miles!

And I'll lower the soundtrack if you want to hear the com radio.

Are you kidding? A '92 Tercel vs any of those big SUVs on the road today and you're toast! Plus even if you are a good driver, there's nothing to say that the SUV driver is (in fact, out here in Texas they seems to be worse.. maybe because they feel safer in those big cars)

At least when you're flying it's a lot harder for someone to hit you!

Yep, you're more likely to die, according to statistics, driving to the airport then you are while in the air.

False. While flying a commercial jet is safer on a per mile basis, private or general aviation is not.

Eh, I've been flying a long time.(Since '82)
I've been nailed by 1 drunk and had many cars bent up here in ATL.
So far no incidents in the air.
Oh, and I had my boat rammed by a stupid kid on a JetSki.

A very nice video bubblewrap. It brings back memories of the times that I had the privilege of flying in a private plane. Don't think that it was ever in the rain though.

Nice video. I would love to hear one with no music so I could hear what's going on with the radio. I just got the urge to fly about a month ago and since then started learning with flight sims before I go get the real thing. I figured this way I would know how to read the instruments and get more out of the lessons.

Let me finish cooking and I'll upload one with no music of nothing but com activity.(and I'll send you the link via PM).
Sims are OK but they're still a computer game. I've used quite a few professional ones. Turbulance shaking, column feedback and everything.
But NOTHING is like the real thing.

Commercial airplanes and military bombers are exceptionally safe. Private planes, jet fighters, and automobile safety all depend on the lack of operator stupidity and occasional luck. I have seen people who drive their car to work in a snow storm so as to avoid being late. (I used to wait until the hills were sanded and the roads were plowed even with studded tires.) I assume that those who bought a Mac make fewer stupid mistakes than the average. sam

Cool video.
Do you have the video camera plugged into the COM system or did it just record over the intercom? If it's no trouble, could you do one with no music? I've been trying to plug my camera directly into the headset port with no luck; if it sounds good, maybe I'll just crank the volume over the intercom.

Any of you guys that want to see what you think of flying should just go to the airport. Most FBO's will give you a 20 minute to 1 hour introductory flight for an affordable price. Or get a coupon from Cessna here, http://learntofly.com/howto/discovery.chtml , for a $49 flight where you do more than just ride along.

Flying is as safe as the pilot if the plane is well maintained. Look through a pilot's logbook to see how often they fly and how many hours they have. Ask them questions to find out how seriously they take flying and what training they do on their own to stay proficient. http://www.aopa.org has all kinds of good info for both practicing and aspiring pilots. This page in particular has good stuff like the Single Pilot IFR PDF: http://www.aopa.org/asf/publications/advisors.html?PF

I flew a Frasca simulator at school and it was just like the real thing, minus the shaking. It was a complete cockpit replica, with a glass cockpit, which was beautiful. The school payed two times what the cost of the actual DA-40s cost.
