I thought this would be an interesting diversion from Iraq and the Middle East, and I'm not sure how much attention it's recieving in the West (it's pretty big news here, as China has no desire to see their twitchy neighbor going nuclear).

In essence, North Korea is trying as hard as it can to get more concessions out of the US, and there are rumors a demonstration of their weapons program will be used to further this goal.

What do you think about a non-aggression pact? I don't think it's a bad idea, as I would assume it would be voided if NK attacked Japan or SK, and there's always the good old PRC to smack them down.

BTW, if anyone would like to enter the reality distortion field that is DPRK, I suggest this news site:

Probably the best, and most accurate, summary of North Korea, and the esteemed Kim Jung Il, can be found here:

http://www.comebackalive.com/df/dpla...hkor/index.htm

an excerpt:

North Koreans are taught that Kim was the inventor of everything from centuries-old scientific and physics theories to such modern conveniences as the automobile and the toaster. Some believe he's walked on the moon. By law, every North Korean household must possess at least two portraits of the Great One. Not Gretzky, but of Kim. That's overachievement.
