Why is sports broadcast music always so lame?

Maybe this is not the case in other sports, but it is definitely the case with baseball...
I'm talking about the plastic epic sounding battle music, or the happy rock with the silly 80s rock guitar solo. Why is it always so damn cheesy? I mean, REALLY cheesy?? I have MLB.tv, so I've seen a number of different broadcasts.

Isn't it usually just whatever the broadcast station's "default" music is? For example, Fox's national Saturday baseball broadcast just uses the same music they use during the football season, and IIRC most of the local Fox affiliates who have the rights to their local team games follow the lead.
I'm trying to remember what SNY's Mets game music is, but I'm drawing a complete blank.
MASN's Nationals (boo!) music is a nice sort of funky tune:

Is that the actual broadcast music or just a commercial?

That's the introduction to the broadcast. I think the music gets played during the commercial in- and out- segments as well.

For years and Years the BBC used an excellent remix of the Propaganda track "A Secret Wish" as the theme music for all their rallying coverage. It was excellent.

Ah, yes. It's completely unimaginative. Sort of a poor man's ESPN's baseball theme:

The last time I watched baseball on TV, I don't remember any music (except the commercials). But of course, the last time I watched baseball on TV was a long time ago-Denny McLain was throwing to Bill Freehan, and Ernie Harwell was in fine form telling us how Al Kaline snagged just about everything that got past the infield...yeah, a long time ago.

OK... since nobody has properly answered the OP question yet, I suppose it's up to me to do it (yet again)...

I know the batter's select the music that plays when they come to the plate.
The rest can probably be blamed on an uncreative TV producer.

It's actually down to cost. Cheesy music (with minimal creative thought applied) is much cheaper to buy in and/or licence.

I don't watch the other sports much but when CBC's Hockey Night in Canada changed the theme song that had been used since 1968 there was a national up roar over it. Many people considered the Programs theme song our second national anthem. In the End CBC was cheap and didn't want to pay for the license rights for it any more and created their own theme which was similar in style. The license agreement with the old song was $500.00 per game. As step as that might be the revenue the CBC gets per game made it nothing.

I'd produce my own song, which is just nails on a chalkboard, and pick that as my intro music.

I'm quite certain that once I heard a sample of this song being played between SportsCenter segments. [lyrical content NSFW]
