Someone sent me this piece of mail and it was returned back to them. I am the recipient, and I had to go to the restaurant in person to pick it up. I'd like to know why it was returned to them.
I went to my local post office where my box is and asked them about it. They gave me an explanation but it seems kind of suspect. So I'm trying to find some other postal employees so I can get a second opinion.

Good luck.
I've had mail treated this way as well - makes no sense and I cannot explain why, other than it happens (rarely)
I think 3 letters have been returned like yours, my problem is outright mail theft.

Assuming other mail you receive at that PO box just fine? I'd be annoyed also, especially considering you are paying for a po box.

I do get mail there. Do I get it all? Who knows. Especially if they don't like the recipient name, and are bouncing some percentage of my MenuLizard mail. I'd really have no way to know that.

So their excuse was that somehow, the sorting machine had read the "from" address as the "to" address. And since there are no Stoneham addresses in Wakefield, it got returned to sender. This sounded suspect to me because wouldn't it have been clearly to absolutely everyone what was happening? Everyone who looked at that mail would have said "oh, this belongs 3 miles away in Stoneham, not here in Wakefield, this is where it originated". And if would have ended up back in the mail stream where it would have made it to my box. There was an 01880 number on the yellow slip that indicated that was where it was bounced back from. But I don't know.
