Student Takes Mom to Prom
She was nervous about going. She even joked about a last minute offer to back out.

And with just about everyone at Williamsville East talking about senior Jeff Langenfield's prom date, she had reason to be a little jittery.

His mom was his date.

Dawn Langenfield never had the opportunity to go her high school prom. She said it took a moment to realize that her son was serious about his offer.

"I was reluctant to go," Dawn Langenfield said.

Mom and son walked arm and arm into Williamsville East High School's senior prom Saturday night.

"I really thought about it and I thought it would be a lot of fun," Jeff said.

With Jeff leaving for the Air Force in August, he said he couldn't think of anyone else he would want to take with him.

The couple posed for pictures and dined along side Jeff's classmates at the Park Country Club.

"Just to have this experience with my son and having my daughters and my other son watch, this memory will last forever," Dawn Langenfield said, choking back tears.

Jeff said his mom means the world to him.

"I know this means a lot to my mom and I'm glad it does because I feel like she's always given so much to me, I can give her something back," he said.

My first thought was that he was desperate and lonely and socially awkward.

But he's a nice looking guy, and I think he's just trying to do something special for his mom, which is sweet.

Hmmm, what kind of nickname should they give him in the Air Force?

There are a million nice things you can do for your mom. Taking her to the prom isn't one of them.

Buying your mother a present is sweet. Taking her to lunch is sweet. Praising her awful cooking is sweet.

Taking her to the high school prom is twisted David Lynch material.

I find it creepy.

And I'm sorry, he might look normal, but no one who has a girl available that they want to go with does this.

Edit: I'd be more inclined to believe he might be gay.

See, I wonder how is that they not only caught the awkward gaze between the two, but decided that was the shot they wanted to go with for the story.

I've always heard "bow chicka bow wow" too, but I got the joke anyways.

At first it looked kind of like Chik-fil-A, which reminded me that another one just opened about 200 yards from my office and made me hungry.

The least they could have done was hire a stand in mom for the photo. That way the world would think he had a hot mother.

Oh come on, give David Lynch some credit. He's way more creative than that.

I don't see what the big deal is. I bet he made his mom sooo happy. That's SO sweet, and it's not something you can do every day - like buying a present, taking her to lunch, telling white lies for her peace of mind. This boy's got a big heart - doesn't matter if he's gay or socially awkward or what. Maybe he even did it so he could come out to her afterwards without her being super upset about it. Or maybe he'll just never get in trouble with her for anything in his life ever again!

I'd have to agree with our "Fresh-Faced Recruit" here (David Lynch is a "fresh-faced recruit" as well).

His mom never had a prom, so he gave her one. It was a really nice thing to do.

However, it's also a lot of fun to make jokes about.

Be sweet and kind to mother, Now and then have a chat. Buy her candy or some flowers, Or a brand new hat. But maybe you had better let it go at that. ...

1. A little odd, but I wasn't there to see how it was handled

2. I think given the circumstances it was sweet. He's going into the Air Force, he doesn't seem like a wimp, he obviously wanted to take care of his mom and surprise her. I think that's commendable.

3. The girls that aren't worth it, will most likely make jokes. The girls that are, will most likely think it's the sweetest thing in the world. Major score.
