Stupid question, but there is this card in the 8500 I have at work.

Is this an accelerator card do you think? It was at the bottom of the case in a slot and is huge.

The problem is with my system that the drive is toast and my replacement IBM 4.5 GB drive is not recognized (even though it's supposed to be supported). Something about the sector size being wrong even though the specs include the right sector size. I suppose I could create a boot CD with Apple System Profiler to find out what this card is, no?

Sorry for the very basic questions, but I'm a iBook OS X kind of guy.

My guess is some kind of hardware based video or audio encoder or decoder.

I would do what you sugested, and boot off a drive that has the Apple System profiler on it in OS9 and see what it says.
