The G4-400 at work is taking 10 minutes to complete start-up. The whole start-up is normal and speedy until all the desktop appears. Then it just stays there for 10 minutes until the network connections begin to ask for passwords.

I thought it was the network connections causing this but i started it up without it connected and it still happened. I also started up after going to chooser and unchecking "open at start-up".

What do i do?

I'm going to clean install if nothing else works. (co-worker said this works)

A friend of my had this exact same thing before. I don't remember the exact cause, but I remember the fix.

You have some extension or other that's causing the hang at startup.

Try enabling/disabling different combinations of extensions and rebooting and you should be able to narrow down the culprit.

To make life a little easier, get a copy of Casady & Greene's Conflict Catcher which totally automates the process as well as providing several other useful features over Apple's Extensions Manager.

thanks, i found the "problem" exxtension

it's the "appleshare" one

when i start up without it i get a quick start up.

with it...it takes a long ass time.

but obviously i can't connect to the network without appleshare.

i did the chooser thing, where i uncheck the "open at start-up" but it still opens at start-up!

HELP! What do i do?

Under System Folder there is a folder called Servers. Delete the aliases in this folder. That will stop any servers from coming back.
