Man, I had to go wash my head out with a Flea bass solo after that.

I don't get her appeal, she really can't sing, like...at all. Even with the auto-tune crap in that song she sounds horrendous.

Well, yer generally accepted thing with male rock superstardom is basically:

1) The chaps want to be you.
2) The ladies want to be with you.

This is a fact. Widely accepted. No point in denying it. Public-eye personnel are hired and fired according to this concept (which is why no matter how good you are on the plank, if you have crap hair and don't look good in leather pants, you ain't getting in the band).

So, I suppose we could transfer that to the Cyrus appeal in a slightly modified way.

1) The ladies want to be her or be her Facebook friend.
2) The ladies think that the chaps want to be with a girl like her.

This is guesswork, obviously, because as Chingachgook says: "Do not try to understand them, because they are a breed apart and make no sense". But the appeal ain't in the musak, so it must be something image related.

The 13-22 crowd likes to party to this kind of music. I only recently exited this age group, so I have plenty of experience rocking out to Miley, etc., at parties.

There's no deeper, elusive explanation--young people just like to party to it.

One thing to factor in, however, is that female taste has a strong role in determining what is acceptable to party to. Females (I'm thinking mainly of sorority girls) will allow only a limited amount of gangster rap, classic rock, "real" country, etc., to be played at a party before they start complaining.

I took absolutely no notice of the US pop scene during the '90s, but Debbie Gibson was never this bad, surely? OK... Let's try and pinpoint. Backstreet Boys were OK, so after them. Britney's first was OK, so after that. Aguilera's first was OK. And then we start getting all the Robin Antin-esque steal, along with American Idol, etc..
Wait. This Beiber pap/cultural implosion really is all Zwinky driven, isn't it?

Another variable in there is MTV, and some would argue its affect/reflection of our dwindling attention spans.

But what determines that female "taste"?
Insert joke about seafood here.

Female taste? Hmm... need to come up with a seafood joke.

Also, speaking of seafood jokes, aren't sperm whales supposed to be funny?
