Does anyone know if the Quicktime MPEG 2 playback codec needs to be updated with Quicktime 7? Is is a paid upgrade? Apple's site still only lists Quicktime 6.

As I remember... tradition from QT5 to QT6 says, pay up. Again. For Pro too.

My guess is that we'll have to pay up.

From what I've heard, the MPEG-2 stuff is now integrated into QTPro.

Does that mean - "I think I read that on the web somewhere" - or "I've seen for myself - but don't want to let on that I've actually installed Tiger"?

Because if it were true, that would rock.

That's what a guy who's been testing the QT7 for Panther said.

If transport streams don't work, MPEG Streamclip quickly converts to program streams.....

No, only for Macintosh users who have payed for Tiger, in order to let the general use of QuickTime slip to a lousy 2% worldwide

Knowing Apple, it would be to no surprise if we have to pay US$29,- for QuickTime Pro AND US$29,- for MPEG-2 component.

The MPEG2 playback component was always US$20,- in the past, and they had to charge separately for it because of MPEG licensing rules... QT Pro is another story.

I'm using mpeg2 playback component with quicktime 7. A payable upgrade is not necessary.

Thanks Demographic. Just to reiterate, here is what Apple says:

I purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component to work with QuickTime. Do I need a new version for QuickTime 7?

No, the MPEG-2 playback component you purchased for QuickTime will continue to work with QuickTime 7.
