So I'm bored and reading the updates from gizmodo and stuff... the one thing I've been wating for has already been announced... 802.1X SUPPORT SO I CAN USE WIFI AT SCHOOL!!! WOOOO HOOOO!

And then a lot of exchange stuff for all you business folks.

Pretty stoked about the 802.1X though!

Wonder what they'll say about the actual SDK though.

Looks like Apple licensed ActiveSync for iPhone Mail.

SDK looks good so far, though some aspects still seem a bit closed, particularly video and the camera. The iPhone sim looks interesting.

Well the SDK seems pretty cool. I may be pessimistic, but I see this ending as "we hope to have this SDK in developers hands by WWDC" or something like that.

I'm excited for that, but seeing as I'm not a developer, I have to wait until weeks/months after all of you smart folks get your hands on this thing and make some kick ass apps.

All I'm wondering as of now is, when is this next iPhone update coming out? They said 802.1X will be included in "the next update" but I'm wondering is that today or...?

Some of this stuff better be available now and better be free if they don't want to annoy us users even more.

Devs get 70% of the price which they get to set. Great for Developers but I like to try apps for free first and like my freeware.

edit: whew, devs can set the price to be free

Wow this all looks amazing, love the idea of the app store

but...nothing for us consumers till June? Nothing? Not even the enterprise stuff? That's pretty lame...

I'm still very excited about all of this stuff... but that's kinda a punch in the gut saying another 4 months guys!

I think it said you can still do it the way we all thought originally, through iTunes, but the AppStore is just the mobile way to do it.

Maybe, but Apple may be charging (for the touch) to upgrade to v2.0...that way, they cover Exchange support, etc.

Exchange support is great. I wonder how the MacBU will respond to the fact that iPhone Mail has better support for Exchange than Entourage.

I've been working on a Big App for the last few weeks. Hopefully, porting it to the iPhone will be easy.

Ha, the rush to download the iPhone SDK seems to have killed Apple's developer site.

Ugh, why are they trying to lock the free SDK up behind all this registration stuff? It involves even more nonsense than the Xcode download; I have the iPhone developer email confirmation, but the link doesn't work. Just make it a download link like iWork trial and I bet Akamai could handle the bandwidth just fine.

The big question I have with their licensing of ActiveSync is will they bring it to Mail/iCal/AddressBook too.

According to the dev site, the requirements are an Intel-based Mac running Leopard. So long PPC...

So that they know who you are if you develop something for the iPhone.

You can fill in whatever bogus info you want.

I did finally download the SDK, a whopping 2GB; twice the size of XCode 3.

Honestly, I don't mind paying for better software for my touch, I just wish that Apple would stop saying "the accountant made me do it!" It just ticks me off. It's as if Apple is afraid to admit that they are squeezing their users - as if they don't do it with new versions of iLife, iWork, OS X and .Mac each year already.

I paid the $20 for the Jan touch upgrade, and I am very happy with it. It was well worth the money!

Let's face it - just about all of us have cell phones, and if any set of companies know how to nickel and dime you to death, it is them.

They aren't just saying it. It's a required accounting practice. That's why the AppleTV and iPhone are accounted for on a subscription revenue system. It's been verified elsewhere by those who know accounting standards.
