You sound like an authority on the subject.

Are you? Are you an authority on the subject?

I totally love 'em (Rice Krispies Treats). Homemade, store bought, wrapped in Saran wrap, it's all good.

Ah-HA! Not the foreigner card, then!

Here's why:
Althaea is a genus of 6-12 species of perennial herbs, including the marshmallow plant whence the confection got its name, native to Europe and western Asia …
‘Mallow’ is a plant? I’d never heard of it. According to the dictionary (and Wikipedia, through Norwegian), it’s called katost in Danish, which I’ve never heard of, either.

Now I’m just left wondering who the hell would look at a plant and think, “Hm. I’m going to name this plant ‘cat cheese’.”
