Is there a way to create a Contact Group (for texting) without going through iCloud to set it up or using 3rd-party apps?

I do it both on ios and on the mac messaging app. Create a new text with your peoples, send the first text, then click details. You should see an option for "add a group name"...

That's how I would normally accomplish it. I was just hoping I could create a standing group ahead of time.

So, I set up a 19-person text group this morning, and the Details option only gives me the option to hide or share my location. There’s no option to name the group. Weird.

Yes, I sent a text.
No, there were some Androids in the crowd, and I’m betting that’s the problem. Messages defaults to standard SMS when there’s a non-iOS device involved. I couldn’t even send a photo to the group.
