I'm a new Mac user and I was just wondering - What is the "Mac Ctrl-Alt-Del"?
(I use OS X) (If there's a difference in this issue between OS 9 & X) Thanks!

It's Command-Option-Escape, to bring up the force-quit dialog. And unlike Windows, force-qutting an application actually works .

For tring to quit a stalled application (frozen) use Command (the Apple key), option and escape.

For restarting:
Command (the key with the apple on it), Control, and the eject key (substitute the keyboard's power button on older macs).

Or you could try Moki's app, escapepod. I'll have to find a link. It's lets you Control-alt-delete to quit the current app immediatly and not deal with the force quit panel which won't always come up and takes longer to.

If you are in a full screen app that crashes just do the command and then hit return twice. Because the open application is highlighted by default you can do this and not even have to see.

And remember that Force Quitting in OS 9 aint the best thing to do... it don't always work and may freeze the comp. OS X rules.

or as an alternative, if the app you are trying to force quit has it's icon in the dock (most do...), click and hold (or "right click" or "control + click) the dock icon, a short menu will pop up....in it you'll see a "quit" command....holding the option key will change it to a "force quit"

escapepod is a little application that lets you terminate the frontmost application by hitting Control-Alt-Delete, or do a force-logout by hitting Command-Control-Alt-Delete.

There are times that Mac OS X appears to be hung (especially in some games) when it really isn't -- just the frontmost application's GUI is wedged. Additionally, when the entire GUI appears to be hung, it is safer to do a force-logout than to simply reboot your machine (and it is quicker, too).

Sometimes Force Quit doesn't really close the application, so the best way is to use the "kill" command from the terminal.
