I'm trying to get my Vista Business install (bootcamp on my MBP) to join our Domain at work (I'm the IT admin here as well, so I have access to everything).

we're still using a Windows 2000 server as our DC. I'm testing Vista on our network to see if we can go ahead and start rolling it ouo to other users.

When I try adding the computer to the domain I get the following error: "The
format for the specified network name is invalid".

I am typing in the domain name correctly, and the computer name is simply
the my last name.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you searched for "the format of the specified network name is invalid"? Lots of hits-but I can't point you to just one or two because there are so many variables.

I have a win2k domain and vista clients and its all good so far. I'd start by changing the name of the vista machine. Maybe something not happy going on trying to create the computer account. Try a simple name like vistaPC just for a test.
