I bought a used iMac last week. Had hoped the seller would ship via my DHL account to my work address, but alas, they insisted on FedEx to my registered PayPal address (my house, where there will never be anyone to sign for it). Whatever. They attempt delivery yesterday and leave me a door tag. I call the 800 number and tell them to hold for pickup. They take down some information and then tell me I can pick it up after 7:30PM. I drive over there last night (about 40 minutes from my house). I wait around for 40 minutes while they try to find the package. They eventually report that they can't find it and that their storage areas automatically lock after 8:00PM. I argue with them a bit about how it was supposed to be held for pickup not stored with tomorrow's deliveries. They say the 800 number must have messed up and they mark it as hold for pickup again and promise that I'll get it the next day (which is now today). They say I can come in at 10:00AM when they open for customer pickups and get it. I get up this morning and check the tracking and guess where it is? "On FedEx vehicle for delivery". Great. Thanks you morons. How much of my time do you need to waste with all of this crap?

All delivery companies have two things in common: They are lazy and their customer service suck.

I feel for you. It could be worse, my brother's computer ended up 1/2 way across the country - completely in the wrong direction. Only when he called them did they notice it wasn't going to the correct address.

I'm going to show up earlier today to pick it up. They actually told me last night that if I had come earlier, they would have been able to find it - my driver came back at 4:00 and my package was behind all of the other trucks that came in later than that. I'm actually impressed that I've been able to resist the temptation to take the day off of work and wait for the package. In the past, there's no way I'd be at work while a computer was to be delivered.

8:09 AM Held at FedEx location for recipient pickup
2:52 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery
Apparently, they figured it out. Guess I can go get my Mac at lunch.

FedEx is lightyears better than UPS. However, given a choice, I will choose the USPS priority mail over anyone.

USPS for me. Cheaper, reasonably reliable, and less incentive for anyone to steal a valuable package as it'd be a federal offense.

This is usually how it works. All packages go through the morning sort and will get an "on vehicle for delivery" scan. When the drivers arrive, they get a list of packages that are to be held, and they take it off the truck and it then gets a "held" scan.

I'll buy them at the Apple store if I could. No problems then unless you want something customized.

I love DHL. My MacBook has to go back to Apple for fix (HD dying). The box came from Apple this morning. I wasn't home so mom packed it up, called DHL and AS SHE WAS ON THE PHONE WITH DHL the doorbell rang and it was the DHL guy picking up the box. I AM NOT KIDDING.
I want to have DHL's babies.

Haha I don't much like either. When I ordered my 5.5G iPod, it arrived in the Bay Area 3 days earlier than the estimated arrival date. So UPS just HAD to sent it between their Oakland and San Jose warehouses for 3 days to ensure timely arrival.
Whereas FedEx would just send the stuff when it arrives without dragging on until the estimated ship date.
