Apple actually leaked the info.
Up to dual 2GHz G5s.
EDIT: Go to the Apple Store, click on the PowerMacs, and check the specs.

Thanks for saving the page. If it's true, I hope the prices are low enough to make me forget about any more upgrades to my platinum G3.
(edit: took out the stuff that wasn't relevant after I bothered to read all of the updated page. Sorry about that folks.)

Hi!
Man, it seems this time they got it all right, CPU speed, bus speed, AGP speed, ATA speed, PCI-X, optical in/out, all up to date technology. I wonder what the prices will be (and the cases), personally, I expect them to rise a bit, probably around those of the previous generation.

Did anyone notice that the info on the top of the page states "G5", but the info for each machine states G4"?
Because the only screwup was the GIF of the general specs was displayed.

I guess since the for the specs is separate from the rest of the page, I guess the web designer uploaded the wrong pic in it's place...

What if the site was hacked? That would also explain the store's closure. I could see a hacker waiting till now to bite into apple's servers and upload his own created graphic to stir up a frenzy. I hope it wasn't, because if the real specs are anything different, then there are already going to be a lot of disappointed people. Plus, I really want one of those kick-a$$ machines!

Well, you have to be pretty damn good to hack a site. You have to be even better to hack a store that grabs personal data and credit cards. That means you go to jail when you hack. Why risk going to jail for hacking a site when there's 1) no political statement, 2) no monetary gains and 3) so deep and hard to find and such a small detail?
No hack. It's either accidental or purposeful mistake.

A: You know that someone just got fired. No question. FIRED.
B: SERIAL ATA!! Apple leads again. At least the first major PC maker to push serial ATA Hard.
C: OPTICAL OUT! Finally.
D: PCI-X Great, but where are the cards?
E: 8X AGP, nice to see we back up with the PC guys...

Actually, if it was a hack, it was a hack to get Akamai to cache a faked image. Very likely nothing on the apple store would actually need to be touched at all. No access to personal data or credit cards necessary.

These are very good points. It was very understated and out of character if it was a hack.

Sheesh. So much better than I expected. It is a shame that I am leaving for Chicago on a missions trip Saturday and won't get to see the results until next Friday night. Oh why isn't my trip a week later? Heh.

It's not a hack, and if it was they hacked apple's servers. When it was up you could delete the akamai part and it would come straight off store.apple.com

8 GB of DDR SDRAM...8 GB! Hello! AGP 8X, USB 2, FireWire 800 & 400, Bluetooth, 802.11G, Dual 2 GHZ (64bit 970). If these specs are true and the prices stay about the same as they are now, these PowerMacs will blow any PC out the water. I might just have to sell a kidney on the black market to pick one of these up.

Let's just hope this product doesn't fall under the "Rev. A" curse.....
Is PCI-X supposed to be backwards compatable? And for that matter, are any PCI-X cards avail or known to be in development?

The next generation of nVidia and ATI graphics cards will have PCI-X options. Although this tech isn't coming out for quite a while in PC land, and the cards even longer. I'm still sceptical even though Apple themselves have showed me.

High end intel based dual xeon systems usually have 1 or 2 PCI-X slots

Wrong! That's PCI Express you're thinking of, which is coming late this year to the PC.
PCI-X, is an older evolution of PCI and is used for gigabit ethernet cards and the like.
You'll never see PCI-X graphics cards, AGP is already MUCH faster. PCI Express however is perfect for graphics cards.

pci-x is backwards compatible for slower pci cards (I think, however, that once you plug a slower pci card into a pci-x bus, the whole bus slows down, killing any additional performance gain you may have had.) The are some other compatibility problems. PCI-X and PCI-66 have 3.3 Volts available for card power, whereas pci-33 (the original pci bus) had 5 volts. The obvious problem being that older cards might not get enough power. I believe devices which currently exist for this standard are things like fibre controllers and gigabit ethernet cards for high-bandwidth networking applications and fast disk controllers for serial ata and scsi devices.
Industry is moving towards this standard - it's already available on high-end server hardware, but it's working its way down to consumer machines.
I think it's awesome apple is pushing this technology - such and improvement over pci-66. Now let's see if they end up supporting pci express...
Now - I have a question: what does audio optical output get you?

MacRumors has pulled down that screen shot.
Now - I have a question: what does audio optical output get you?
For one thing it gives you more options when doing audio editing for DVD's. It's nice to hear the 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 audio you are mastering before it gets on a disc.

I don't see how this could really be a hoax.
They couldn't have been hacked. It's never happened before.
That only leaves for a crazy employee that put this up as a joke then got the axe.
If that was the case, then fine. But it seems so unlikely.
It couldn't have been a sanctioned joke. They can't possibly expect to walk in on Monday and be like "well, see, we were lying..." that's retarded.
The only other possibility is that it was a mistake, and the specs are indeed true.
Frankly I'm hoping they're freakin' true!

Whether it's a mistake or a hack of some kind, I still find it hard to believe it happened at all. The only mileage Apple would gain by doing it intentionally, is to feed the rumour mills one set of specs, and then come out with something even better which seems even more unlikely.
Frankly, I wasn't even expecting them to hit 2GHz this rev, so these specs are better than I was expecting. I do hope it's true
