I turn my mbp off before going to bed and when i try to turn it in the morning it wont turn on(or at least the display). Everything seems to be turning on, but the display wont show. I have to hold down the power button and restart it for the screen to come on. After that, i can boot it up fine. This happens to me every morning whenever i try to turn it on after it has been off for hours.

My question.
how do i fix this so that when i press the power button it turns on every time with no problem?
does anybody have this issue?

Why do you stut off the computer? Have you tried the standered things to try ... ?
I would try to rin Fix Permissions with Disk First Aid
Also make sure that you are up to date with everything from Apple, system ect.

I would try those first ...
Mac Pro - 12 GB RAM - 30" & 23" Displays - 10.7.1
MacBook Pro - 2 GB RAM - 10.6.8
Airport Extreme • Canon iPF5000 • PIXMA Pro9000 • Xerox N2125

Try a PRam reset, see how things work after that, if still acting whacky give the fruit sellers a call.

I shut my computer off every day, sometimes 4, 5, 6 times in a day, have done it with every laptop i've owned...

Sorry but it doesn't matter why he does. It's his to do with what he pleases. I'm sorry to be picking on you directly, but this is pointed at ALL of you who say the same damn thing.

"why do you turn it off? it's a mac, you dont need to shut it off."

Maybe he's trying to save energy costs.

Maybe for security reasons he has to shut it off.

Maybe he doesnt want it collecting dust via the fan.

Maybe he's just parinoid about leaving on a notebook. Maybe it's just the way he's treated all his laptops from day 1. When not in use, shut down. It's habit.

It doesnt matter why and I wish people would quit throwing it around like an accusation that the user is doing something wrong.

I agree completely. I have tried all those solutions with no luck. After going through 5 mabook pros you would think that this one would be perfect.

apple serioulsy needs to work on quality control.

Um, I think you're being a little touchy here guy. He didn't accuse anyone of anything. He ASKED why he shuts it off. Some people assume they need to always shut their 'books off without realizing some of the advantages of just sleeping it.

If no one ever suggested to NOT turn the macbook off some people would continue with perhaps unnecessary habits.

In response to the OP: Reset Pram and NVram and I would run a hardware test before just giving apple a call or stopping by your local store.

This sometimes happens to me also. When it does, I close the lid and let it go to sleep again and then open the lid -- everything comes up properly (except the screen seems to have to reset sometimes -- it comes on for a moment, goes dark, and then comes on again).

You should have a CD that came with you MBP that says "Hardware Test".

I've never actually used mine (Older Powerbook), but I think you just boot from it?

This is taken from the MacBook Pro User's Guide Page 101,

Using Apple Hardware Test
You can use Apple Hardware Test to help determine if there is a problem with your
computer’s hardware.
To use Apple Hardware Test:
1 Disconnect all external devices from your computer except the power adapter.
If you have an Ethernet cable connected, disconnect it.
2 Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 that came with your computer.
3 Restart your computer and hold down the D key as it starts up.
4 When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears, follow the onscreen instructions.
5 If Apple Hardware Test detects a problem, it displays an error code. Make a note of the
error code before pursuing support options. If Apple Hardware Test does not detect a
hardware failure, the problem might be software related.
For more information about Apple Hardware Test, see the Apple Hardware Test Read
Me file on the Mac OS X Install Disc 1.
